The new eTruck, the new Lion’s City 10 E, batteries from Nuremberg, a European road trip in an electric bus, a successful IAA and exciting eMobility Days: 2022 was a turbulent yet good year for MAN. Here is our look back on the past year!
Another year has passed already – and once again, it was not an easy one: no sooner did the coronavirus pandemic seem to be under control than the next crisis – and challenge – came knocking on the door with the war in Ukraine. However, despite the circumstances, MAN achieved a great deal in 2022, launching fantastic products, implementing innovative projects and developing forward-looking strategies. But first things first!
MAN eTruck
February saw the launch of a key product for MAN’s zero emissions strategy: the MAN eTruck. MAN presented a close-to-production prototype for the first time in Nuremberg, with the Bavarian state premier Dr Markus Söder and his minister for the economy, Hubert Aiwanger, in attendance. A few weeks later, transport minister Dr Volker Wissing was able to take the first drive in Berlin. MAN Truck & Bus is accelerating its transition to zero-emission commercial vehicles: production is due to start in 2024.

The war in Ukraine began on 24 February. Difficulties with wiring loom deliveries meant that the production lines were at a standstill for part of March. Production began again in April, with the strong team at MAN going full steam ahead.
European road trip in an electric bus
May was all about the grand tour: the fully electric MAN Lion’s City 12 E drove some 2,500 kilometres from Munich to Limerick in Ireland, earning it the title of Bus of the Year 2023. Furthermore, MAN is working with ABB E-mobility on the megawatt chargers of the future, sparking the next stage of electromobility. The ANITA automation project is also driving ahead with partners Deutsche Bahn, Hochschule Fresenius and Götting KG.
In June, MAN decided to base high-volume battery production for electric trucks and buses in Nuremberg. The company also celebrated the one-year anniversary of the eMobility Center in Munich. The expansion of the Krakow plant to increase truck production also continued apace.
Two more highlights followed in September and October: a whole range of new vehicles and digital services were presented at IAA in Hanover, while the MAN eMobility Experience Days in Munich enabled customers and journalists to drive the almost production-ready eTruck for the first time. On top of that, the new MAN Lion’s City 10 E midibus celebrated its world premiere before an industry audience. What an exciting and productive year – bring on 2023!
